All
of Log Homes of the Smokies' log are kiln-dried.
This process controls the amount of moisture in the
logs used to build your home. Kiln drying produces
uniform, stable building materials. The process
also kills mold and fungi; insects and their eggs,
reduces checking (cracking), and provides a better
base for stains and finishes. Kiln-drying your logs
can remove more than 10,000lbs of water, making the
logs easier to handle. Air dried logs often have
large gaps between the logs, walls shrink, and doors
and windows can bind. These logs are not sanitized,
have sap seeping to the surface, and you cannot
apply a preservative/finish until at least one year
